There are quite a few movie franchises that pay no attention to maintaining any coherent or firm continuity. Continuity is an interesting concept in fiction and especially in movies, the basic idea being that one story flows into the next in a streamlined fashion. Modern superhero movies have been particularly fixated on continuity, in order to facilitate crossovers and team-ups similar to those seen in the comics.
9 V/H/S In each V/H/S movie, a collection of V/H/S cassettes is uncovered, each acting as its own horror movie short within the overall film. As such, the V/H/S franchise has paid no real heed towards continuity simply because its template does not require it to. The only exceptions are the spin-off movies SiREN and Kids vs. Aliens, the two stemming from the segments "Amateur Night" and "Slumber Party Alien Abduction" in V/H/S and V/H/S 2 respectively.
7 Universal Soldier The Jean-Claude Van Damme and Dolph Lundgren sci-fi actioner Universal Soldier introduced them as revived weapons of war known as Unisols. The Universal Soldier franchise later followed it up with the made-for-TV movies Universal Soldier II: Brothers in Arms and Universal Soldier III: Unfinished Business, sans Van Damme and Lundgren.
4 The Evil Dead Sam Raimi's 1981 directorial debut The Evil Dead established him as a legendary horror filmmaker right out of the gate, but rights issues led to Evil Dead II re-telling elements of its predecessor in a way that does not match up with what came before. This would lead series staple Bruce Campbell to dub Evil Dead II a "requel", while the subsequent Army of Darkness warped Ash back into the Middle Ages.
