The differences between the DCEU and MCU.
Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT The previous incarnation of the DC Universe, the DC Extended Universe, was a vastly different superhero film franchise than its competitor, the ongoing Marvel Cinematic Universe. The DCEU began a year after the MCU’s most game-changing release, 2012’s The Avengers, a blockbuster that made superhero films and the concept of a shared cinematic universe an overnight phenomenon.
9 Batman’s Terrifying Introduction Ben Affleck’s Batman joined the DCEU in 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and while his iteration was generally well-received, he too was a source of controversy. Affleck’s Batman is highly accurate to DC’s comics, taking inspiration from various Modern Age Batman comics, including Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns, but he is also one of the most violent live-action Batman incarnations.
6 The Death Of Superman Superman tragically sacrificed himself to defeat Doomsday at the end of Dawn of Justice, leading Wonder Woman and Batman to form the Justice League and Steppenwolf to invade Earth under the assumption that it is no longer protected. Two of the MCU’s most beloved superheroes, Iron Man and Black Widow, both perish in Avengers: Endgame, yet their deaths are handled entirely differently.
