UPDATE: Deputies have a suspect in custody following a deadly shooting at Atkins Nursery in Fallbrook.
Deputies responded to Atkins Nursery on Reche Road at around 3 p.m. SkyRanger 7 flew over the scene and saw dozens of patrol cars and fire department vehicles on and outside of the property. There appeared to be a body covered by a tarp in the parking lot, and medics were seen taking another person away on a stretcher.
North County Fire Protection District Capt. John Choi confirmed one person was killed and at least two others were taken from the scene to a hospital by ambulance. Sheriff Kelly Martinez briefed news outlets at around 5:30 p.m. and told NBC 7 investigators don't know what connection the victims had to the nursery or the shooter. The suspect, described only as a 76-year-old man, was taken into custody at around 3:15 p.m., around 10 minutes after deputies first arrived. according to Martinez.“This is a devastating incident and our hearts go out to everyone affected by this tragedy," Martinez said.
