New funding aims to funnel more early college high school graduates into the University of North Texas at Dallas while equipping their families with resources...
The eight-year award will provide hundreds of early college graduates in Texas with scholarships, mentors and support.
The Greater Texas Foundation, which aims to increase postsecondary attainment in the state, awarded the university $1.5 million to finance such efforts to help. The university’s eight-year award will provide qualifying students with scholarships, mentorship opportunities, financial literacy training and guidance as they explore possible future careers.
School leaders hope that a community will form at UNT Dallas with each consecutive cohort — the first of which is expected to be made up of 40 students and will launch next year — that will offer each other support. The grant allows the school to “remove barriers to higher education and create pathways to bachelor’s degrees that lead to socioeconomic growth,” UNT Dallas President Bob Mong said in a statement.
